Week 12 Picks
Penn St at Indiana Indiana stinks against everyone (except Iowa of course, hawks love to play to the level of the competition). Bill Lynch might be coaching for his job here, Hooisers put up a fight for a half but Penn St pulls away in second. Penn St 34, Indiana 21 Purdue at Mich St Super rough year for Boilers this year with injuries. Sparty rolls and will be going to the Rose Bowl if they end up in a two way tie with Wisconsin. Mich St 41, Purdue 17 Wisconsin at Michigan Toughest test left for Wisconsin. Likely will be another offensive shootout in the big house. Michigan scares the Badgers all the way to the 4th, but Wisconsin wins. Wisconsin 42, Michigan 37 Illnois at NW This game makes me sick – gameday will be on site, and Herbstreit said they would have been in Iowa City if Iowa hadn’t done their usual awful loss to NW. I’m gonna say Illinois wins in need of a win to become bowl eligible, and Persa out hurts the Cats. Illinois 28, NW 24 Nebraska at Texas A&M Tough road game for Neb here….I’m going with A&M in the upset. Been such a crazy season, the upsets keep coming! Texas A&M 31, Nebraska 28 Ohio St at IOWA This game also makes me sick to predict….I’ll be there live, but barely excited anymore after what could have been in this game if Hawks had just taken care of business. But, I’m still going with the homer pick and taking the Hawks to pull the upset…Ohio St has a ton to play for, but Iowa having nothing to play for now except the Outback takes all the pressure off. DJK and Stanzi come up big and beat their home state on their senior day. IOWA 34, Ohio St 33 Week 11 picks
Again, getting em in just in time…. Wisconsin 33 Indiana 21 Illinois 35 Minn 17 Michigan 38 Purdue 20 Ohio St 28 Penn St 17 Nebraska 38 Kansas 16 IOWA 31 Northwestern 20 Cats have given Iowa fits last few years….but Hawks are and have been more talented….today they finally take care of NW. Stanzi throws a couple TDs and Arob and Coker combine for a couple TDs as well. Week 10 Picks
Just moved and have limited internet connection and not much time…so just gonna get the picks in, no analysis this week. Nebraska at Iowa St (Neb -19) Winner: Neb Spread: ISU Minnesota at Mich St (Mich St -24.5) Winner: Mich St Spread: Minn Illinois at Michigan (Mich -3) Winner: Michigan Spread: Michigan Wisconsin at Purdue (Wisc -20) Winner: Wisc Spread: Purdue NW at Penn St (Penn St -6) Winner: Penn St Spread: Penn St IOWA at Indiana (Iowa -17) Winner: IOWA Spread: IOWA Week 9 Picks
NW at Indiana (NW -3) Winner: NW Spread: NW Cats are a solid team this year….should have knocked off Mich St last week. They get it done. Purdue at Illinois (Illinois -17) Winner: Illinois Spread: Purdue Illinois is much improved this year…Purdue is definitely rebuilding. Ohio St at Minn (Ohio St -25.5) Winner: Ohio St Spread: Minn Michigan at Penn St (Mich -3) Winner: Michigan Spread: Michigan Missouri at Nebraska (Neb -7.5) Winner: Neb Spread: Neb Mich St at IOWA (Iowa -6.5) Winner: IOWA Spread: IOWA Hawks should NOT have lost last week….second loss, both this year due to awful special teams play. As long as they get that cleaned up, I think they get the big win at home over Sparty. It is an absolute must win game to stay in the big ten title race. If Iowa wins, the race gets really interesting. Out of these three super tough home games, they dropped the first….have to win the second two. Sparty has had plenty of trick plays this year, Kirk and Iowa better pay close attention to the film and be alert. Stanzi makes big plays once again…this one will be a nail biter, and the revenge factor for Iowa’s last second win last year at MSU…but I’m going with Iowa in a close one. Week 8 Picks
Mich St at NW (Mich St -5) Winner: Mich St Spread: Mich St Penn St at Minn (Penn St -9.5) Winner: Penn st Spread: Minn Purdue at Ohio St (Ohio St -24) Winner: Ohio St Spread: Ohio St I would NOT want to be purdue this week….Bucks want revenge for last year, and are mad after getting upset last week. Indiana at Illinois (Illinois -13.5) Winner: Illinois Spread: Indiana Nebraska at Oklahoma St (Neb -5.5) Winner: Oklahoma St Spread: Ok St Nebraska goes down for the second week in a row to a good Okie St team….they’ve got a tape to watch now on how to beat the Huskers, and they are at home. Wisconsin at IOWA (Iowa -5.5) Winner: IOWA Spread: IOWA Badgers are probably better than I thought this year….but they still haven’t been impressive in a lot of the games besides the Ohio St game. Hoping the badgers have the classic hangover after beating the #1 team last week. This will be a great game and close for most of it into the 4th. I’ll take Stanzi over any qb in the big ten in a close 4th quarter. Rick gets the job done again late in a close game, with DJK and Mcnutt making big plays as usual. Week 7 picks Ark St at Indiana (Indiana -12) Winner: Indiana Spread: Indiana Illinois at Mich St (Mich St -7) Illinois has looked improved, but Mich St is one of the hottest teams in the big ten right now. Winner: Mich St Spread: Mich St Minnesota at Purdue (Purdue -5.5) Battle of two bad teams, I’m picking the upset here. Minnesota has to win a game at some point. Winner: Minnesota Spread: Minnesota Ohio St at Wisc (Ohio St -4) Big night game, challenging game for Bucks since it’s at Madison. But Wisconsin doesn’t look quite as strong this year as they were hyped coming into the season. Game stays close for a half but Buckeyes pull away in second by a couple scores. Winner: Ohio St Spread: Ohio St Texas at Nebraska (Neb -9.5) Huskers toughest test so far this year. We should get a good feel after this game for how good they are. It’s at home, so Huskers take it, but should be close with Texas covering. Winnner: Neb Spread: Texas IOWA at Michigan (Iowa -3.5) MY game of the week…..I will be there LIVE in Ann Arbor!!! Excited to see Denard Robinson face the hawkeye defense…Mich St’s defense is good, but Iowa’s is better. Hawks have the #1 scoring D in the country. As long as the coaches have a good plan to contain Robinson, Iowa should come away with a big road win. Iowa’s offense needs to be smooth and efficient, and make sure to finish drives against the porous Michigan defense. Wolverines only ranked in one poll now after last weeks loss to the Spartans….but I said it last week, I think Michigan was and is one of the most overrated teams in the nation. Their D is way below average, much closer to poor. Basically, if you at least contain Denard Robinson, don’t allow him to run wild and force him to beat you with his arm, teams should be in good shape vs Michigan. And if you put up points on the Wolverines, their offense ends up with a lot of pressure to score at least three fourths or so of the times Drob and co get the ball. This game probably stays close in the first half, but I like Iowa to put it away in the second half. Winner: Iowa Spread: Iowa Week 6 Picks Here they are for this weeks games! Indiana at Ohio St (Ohio St -22) Chappell for IU has been putting up some huge numbers, but the Hooisers haven’t played a real defense yet. The buckeyes get to him and rough him up more than he has been this year. Pryor runs all over the IU defense making plays. Indiana covers here, but Ohio St wins fairly easily. Ohio St 31, IU 17 Winner: Ohio St Spread: IU Illinois at Penn St (Penn St -7.5) Illini coming off a very impressive showing taking the Buckeyes down to the wire. Penn St coming off a beating at Iowa that should have been much worse than the score. Penn St has the edge at home, and the Nittany Lions have had a brutal road schedule so far traveling to Alabama and Iowa. Penn St gets it done at home and covers. Penn St 27, Illinois 17 Winner: Penn St Spread: Penn St Minnesota at Wisconsin (Wisc -22) Gophers have looked really bad for most of the year, other than hanging with USC for 3 quarters, and almost beating NW last week. Big rivalry game for Paul Bunyan’s axe…..Badgers win, but Minn should cover in a game this big to both schools. Wisc 30, Minn 20 Winner: Wisc Spread: Minn Purdue at Northwestern (NW -10) Boilers have looked terrible this year….they are probably worse than the Gophers, especially since they lost their starting QB for the year with a torn ACL. Wildcats have their usual high powered passing attack going this year, with Persa putting up some massive numbers so far. Northwestern rolls easily at home. NW 37, Purdue 10 Winner: NW Spread: NW Michigan St at Michigan (Michigan -4) GAME OF THE WEEK Alright, I saved the best game of the big ten this week for last. HUGE game here for both teams. First time since 1999 both teams come into this rivalry game unbeaten. It is still somewhat early in the season to tell if one or both of these teams is legit in contending for the big ten title. If I had to pick one though, it would definitely be the Spartans at this point. Their schedule sets up very favorably with no Ohio St. If they win this game, they will be a huge factor in the big ten race, but Sparty does still have road games at NW, at Iowa, and at Penn St. Kirk Cousins for Michigan St has a lot of experience, and the Spartans D is looking solid this year. Michigan (and this is just my opinion at this point in the season) is one of the most overrated teams in the country. Yes, Denard Robinson is one of the best, if not the best, offensive players in college football this year. But the Wolverines are a one man team right now. Some of the big ten’s better defenses and D coordinators will figure out ways to at least contain D Rob and not let him put up video game numbers. Also, if D Rob carries the ball 25 times a game in the big ten season, he is very likely to get hurt. He’s an athlete, but he’s 6 foot, 185 pounds. That’s not a huge RB body, and he will be taking a lot of shots over the rest of the year….and the defenses are only gonna be tougher and more physical (MSU, Iowa, Wisc, Ohio St, Penn St). Also, Michigan’s defense is porous. They gave up 500 yards and 37 points to Umass, and turned in another similar performance vs Indiana. If this type play continues, it will catch up to them. Robinson and the Michigan offense are going to have to score at least 75% of their possessions just to stay in games. Michigan St enters the big house as the Wolverines toughest opponent so far. This game will be super close, but I’m picking Sparty to come out with the win. Michigan St 35, Michigan 31 Winner: Mich St Spread: Mich St
*I forgot Nebraska was playing on Thursday night this week, so I missed that pick. Gotta start getting my picks in earlier than Saturday morning! J Week 5 picks
Short on time again this week….after my marathon is done this Sunday I should be back to giving more detailed picks than just scores! Ohio St at Illinois (Ohio St -17.5) Winner: Ohio St Spread: Ohio St NW at Minn (NW -5.5) Winner: NW Spread: NW Wisc at Mich St (Wisc -2) Winner: Mich St Spread: Mich St Michigan at Indiana (Mich -10) Winner: Mich Spread: Indiana Penn St at Iowa (Iowa -7) Winner: Iowa Spread: Iowa This series has had close games the last few years, with Iowa recently having Penn State’s number. Role is reversed this year, as Penn St is an underdog for the first time in a few years. But Iowa has home field and has looked good this year other than the first half at Arizona. Look for Stanzi to have a big game, and McNutt and DJK making plays downfield, along with Keenan Davis making some grabs again. Adam Robinson goes for 70 yards and a TD. Week 4 Picks
I ran short on time this week….so just scores for today and I’ll combine weeks 3 and 4 recaps in a few days!
